My 12-year-old grandson texted me yesterday to say he was learning about Net-Zero, carbon neutrality, and PassivHaus in school and because I write about construction, he thought he was bringing me something new.
So I called him and Yes, I listened patiently while he told me how my house could be improved if I would only seal up all the cracks so air couldn’t escape through the walls, replace all my windows with triple pane ones, put in an air exchange system and pack my house with insulation. Damn the cost, he just wants me to live in a safe energy efficient, and sustainable house that fights global warming.
You gotta love young minds. After listening to his enthusiasm about PassivHaus, I wondered how many adults don’t understand it. So, I checked around and found two really nice videos that explain the principles of PassivHaus.
The first is a 90 second White Board presentation:
A Passivhaus is a building in which thermal comfort can be achieved solely by post-heating or post-cooling the fresh air flow required for good indoor air quality, without the need for additional recirculation of air.
The second video shows a group of kids from Europe along with an Architect who created a video to show adults what Passivhaus does to conserve energy in their school.
